Mission

Mountain Athlete Journal is an independent print publication exploring the intersection of mountain athletics and creativity.

As skiers, cyclists, trail runners, and mountaineers, we find meaning through movement. That movement sparks creative expression — performance and creativity both thrive in the flow state we discover in the mountains.

Mountain Athlete Journal is a physical canvas by and for the athlete-storytellers and artists, photographers, and philosophers of the mountains. Each issue features stories, photographs, and art from contributors who live and create in mountain sports in tactile form, away from the noise of social media algorithms and artificial intelligence. Our goal is to build community and a deeper relationship with the mountains and with ourselves. Published biannually in spring and fall, Mountain Athlete Journal is a refuge from digital distraction — a space for expression, connection, and the stories worth sharing.

Mountain Athlete Journal is the crazy idea of Jackson Long, a proud mountain athlete. Feeling exhausted by the social media slot machine and the rise of artificial intelligence, Jackson — ultra athlete, endurance coach, sports nutritionist, and passionate writer and film photographer — felt called to produce something tangible and creatively impactful. Something that brought together interesting athletes and their art to fuel the flow of meaningful movement.
